When Hard Work Does Not Pay Off

Sometimes you work so hard on something; you put in time, energy, blood, sweat and tears and nothing happens, but I’m here to encourage you to keep going, no matter what.

I remember rolling out marketing plans that took so much time and preparation. I was literally working 17 hour days for months and when I rolled it out, nothing. You could literally hear the crickets chirping. But I reminded myself that I just need to be patient and don’t lose faith or confidence. After you have poured so much energy into something, there is no way that it won’t produce some result. This all goes back to the transference of energy stuff we learned in science class. In the physical sciences, an energy transfer or ‘energy exchange’ from one system to another is said to occur when an amount of energy crosses the boundary between them, thus increasing the energy content of one system while decreasing the energy content of the other system by the same amount.

In other words, the amount of energy you put in, crosses over from you to your work and increases the results of your work by the same amount that you put in. If you put in 50%, you will see 50% results. If you put in 110%, you will see 110% results and so on. This is why we should not waiver from what we put in, because the moment the level of energy drops from your work, it will also drop in the results of your work. The challenge is to keep going strong even though you see no sign of change or improvement.

Put your patience, faith and confidence to work and do not let yourself be swayed. As long as you are doing good work, it will not be in vain.

Labour not in vain
